Following, Siouxland Estate Planning Council will host lunch and a brief business meeting.\n \nThe seminar will provide 3.5 hours of continuing legal education [including 1 hour of ethics].  Attendance certificates will be available for insurance and accounting professionals, along with a description of the content, if you wish to pursue accreditation.\n \nRecent Developments:   This will be a review of recent legislative, regulatory, and judicial developments in the estate, gift, and generation-skipping tax fields.  Among the areas to be discussed are the proposed valuation regulations under Section 2704(b), other valuation issues, the marital deduction, gifting strategies, charitable issues, asset protection, the generation-skipping tax, and insurance.\n \nThe Top Ten Issues in Fiduciary Income Tax:  The federal fiduciary income tax is one of the most complex taxes.  This session will examine the top ten issues that estate planning professionals encounter in dealing with the fiduciary income tax including the difference between grantor and non-grantor trusts, understanding DNI, the complexity of simple trusts and the even greater complexity of complex trusts, the deduction of expenses, and the different elections that can be made.\n \nAvoiding Fiduciary Litigation and the Ethical Problems that may Arise: This section will discuss the different trends that are occurring in fiduciary litigation, the ethical issues that may arise, and how to minimize one’s exposure to the risks of litigation.\n \nAbout the Presenter: Charles D. (“Skip”) Fox IV is a partner in the Charlottesville, VA office of the law firm of McGuire Woods LLP and chair of its Tax & Employee Benefits Department.  He teaches at the ABA trust schools and lectures around the country on trust and estate topics.\n \n \n \n \n
